This can be more than annoying. About 25% of men and nearly 10% of women have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a severe sleep disorder characterized by loud snoring, and gasping for breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tissue in the back of the throat temporarily blocks the airway, leading to pauses in breathing (apneas) throughout the night. Obstructive sleep apnea not only leaves people tired and anxious, but also puts them at risk for a number of health problems, including high blood pressure, depression and heart disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most effective and best-studied treatment is positive airway pressure (CPAP), a small bedside machine that pushes air through a mask to prevent your airway from collapsing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People with mild or moderate OSA sometimes find CPAP difficult to use and often wonder about alternatives. <strong>Dental appliances<\/strong> (also known as <strong>Sleep Apnea Splints<\/strong> or <strong>Oral Appliances<\/strong>) are an option for some people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:49px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"560\" height=\"316\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adcgalani.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/sleep-apnea-splints-adc-galani.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11543\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adcgalani.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/sleep-apnea-splints-adc-galani.jpg 560w, https:\/\/www.adcgalani.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/sleep-apnea-splints-adc-galani-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adcgalani.gr\/en\/\">Galani Dental Clinic<\/a> we have received the necessary training from <strong>TUFTS University in Boston<\/strong>, and we can offer <strong>Sleep Splint treatment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Does the Sleep Apnea Splint work for me?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These Splints reposition your jaw or tongue to open your upper airway. But they can be uncomfortable at times and require some patience for the patient to get used to. It is difficult to predict who may benefit from using an oral appliance, and people with very mild OSA and few symptoms may not notice much of a difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In general, Sleep Apnea Splints mainly help people with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Very loud snoring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mild Sleep Apnea.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Moderate Sleep Apnea.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For patients who cannot or do not want to put on CPAP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-black-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-black-background-color has-background is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"background-color:#d9fafd\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center has-medium-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>There are three main categories of dental appliances for Obstructive Sleep Apnea.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:29px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mandibular advancement devices or Sleep Apnea Splints<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"364\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adcgalani.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/sleep-apnea-splints.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11545\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adcgalani.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/sleep-apnea-splints.jpg 364w, https:\/\/www.adcgalani.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/sleep-apnea-splints-273x300.jpg 273w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 364px) 100vw, 364px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Mandibular advancement devices<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Made of molded hard plastic, these appliances snap over your lower and upper teeth, they also have metal components and screws that can be tightened to push the lower jaw forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some dentists make custom mandibular advancement devices, but before you consider purchasing a custom device, make sure your dentist is experienced and board-certified in sleep-related breathing disorders. Some uncertified dentists simply take a mold of your teeth, send it to a company that makes the appliance, and then sell it to you with a simple logo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mouth Guards&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"373\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adcgalani.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/mouth-guards-adc-galani.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11547\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.adcgalani.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/mouth-guards-adc-galani.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.adcgalani.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/mouth-guards-adc-galani-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Mouth Guards\u00a0<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similar to mandibular advancement devices, these devices also help reposition your lower jaw, albeit to a lesser extent. Some sleep doctors recommend some simple Splints, which you can buy online for less than 100 euros. Instead of starting with impressions of your teeth created by a dentist, you use what the company calls the &#8220;boil and bite&#8221; method. Place the device in a cup of boiling water for one minute, then bite down on the softened plastic so it molds to your teeth. They tend to make your mouth very dry and can be a bit uncomfortable.
